Sunnyvale, CA — April 1, 2015 — Enlighted Inc., a provider of advanced digital sensors and analytics platforms for smarter buildings, today announced that its smart sensor lighting installation with California State University Dominguez Hills has received a Top Project of the Year Award from the Environmental Leader Product & Project Awards.
The Environmental Leader Product & Project Awards recognize excellence in products and services that provide organizations with energy and environmental benefits, as well as projects that improve environmental or energy management and conserve resources.
“We had more entries than ever this year, and competition was tough. The winners showed innovation and the ability to help transform the fields of energy and sustainability management,” says Paul Nastu, publisher of Environmental Leader. “Entries that were awarded Top Product or Project of the Year are those that should be carefully considered by companies seeking to improve operations and boost the bottom line.”
When California State University Dominguez Hills was presented with the need to limit energy use in order to meet their corporate sustainability goals and policies, the staff and students turned to Enlighted’s smart sensor technology. The project began as a research assignment to promote student engagement in sustainability efforts by investigating potential methods of reducing energy consumption on campus. Since installing Enlighted’s sensors, the university has reduced lighting energy usage by 78 percent in hallways and corridors and office lighting energy usage by 50 percent in areas where the technology has been deployed. The university also estimates that the lighting project is saving the campus $26,000 in electricity costs annually.
One judge said of the project, “yielding up to 80% energy savings is an excellent ROI. Payback within a year is an easy to articulate business case. What stands out in the detail of the project submitted was the involvement of the students to participate in the process and see the positive impact of the product first hand. This is invaluable experience for young minds and knowing that the data from the solution may allow agencies to better plan and inform consumption reduction programs is also a meaningful outcome.”
With rapid advancements and a continuous rate of change in the field of energy optimization, sustainability professionals have a markedly difficult time knowing what products to choose to help their organizations improve energy, environmental and sustainability performance. The Environmental Leader Product & Project Awards provide a solid base of field-tested deployments such as Enlighted’s smart sensor installation with CSU Dominguez Hills, to illustrate actual products’ impact on sustainability and energy management practices.
