Enlighted Wins Illumineer of the Year and Best SSL Smart Lighting Project at Fourth Annual LEDs Magazine Sapphire Awards Gala

Sunnyvale, Calif. – February 16, 2018 – The Sapphire Awards Gala Dinner, held on the night of February 14, 2018, celebrated the most innovative companies in the solid-state lighting (SSL) industry by naming the fourth annual LEDs Magazine Sapphire Award winners. The event, held in conjunction with Strategies in Light, The LED Show, and Lightspace California in Anaheim, CA, aboard the RMS Queen Mary honored the enabling technologies and elegance-of-design in finished lighting products in the industry. Enlighted CTO and Co-Founder Tanuj Mohanwas named ‘Illumineer of the Year,’ with the company also receiving a Sapphire Award in the SSL Smart Lighting Project category for its Cheshire Public Schools installation.

“LEDs enable all new experiences in light,” said Maury Wright, Editor-in-Chief of LEDs Magazine. “Our Sapphire Awards winners exemplify that eventuality with innovation that is simply amazing relative to products from one year ago.”

Mohan is the smart lighting visionary behind the Enlighted IoT System, which offers task tuning, occupancy data and daylight harvesting. Even more important than these capabilities is the vital role lighting now plays in bringing IoT to the commercial marketplace thanks to Mohan’s contributions. Through IoT technology, LEDs can now serve as a conduit for additional capabilities such as HVAC optimization, space planning, asset tracking and more.

Twenty percent of Fortune 500 companies, including Google, AT&T, Oracle, LinkedIn and Uber, are reaping the benefits of the technology Mohan created in the Brilliant Buildings™ of the future. Educational facilities also benefit, with the Enlighted lighting control system providing a 62 percent reduction over the LED baseline at Cheshire Public Schools – a total annual savings of $125,000 in energy costs coupled with maintenance savings of $30,000 per year. The system also efficiently manages building temperatures and electrical outlet plug loads, and monitors human movement patterns in buildings to allow for more informed decisions on how to best keep students and teachers safe in their schools.

“We’re ecstatic that Enlighted has been recognized as an innovator in the LED lighting industry, and I’m honored that my contributions are worthy of being named Illumineer of the Year,” said Mohan. “Successful customer installations like Cheshire Public Schools exemplify the benefits IoT technology can bring to commercial building projects, and all of this is made possible through lighting.”

88 companies working across the LED and solid-state lighting sectors nominated over 100 products to be considered for the fourth annual Sapphire Awards, along with outstanding individuals or teams for the prestigious Illumineer of the Year award. New this year, the judges also considered submissions in project categories for both SSL smart Lighting and SSL outdoor lighting, and a humanitarian award was announced.
